Abruzzo is a wine-producing region on the east coast of Italy with a winemaking tradition dating back to the 6th century BC. Abruzzo wines account for 6% of Italian wine production, of which red wines account for 60%.

Château de Mars was founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, a charismatic man who pioneered the rebirth of viticulture in the Abruzzo region and opened a new chapter in the world of winemaking. He succeeded in making two of the most important grape varieties in the region, Trebbiano and Montepulciano, world-renowned excellent varieties. Marciarelli combines rural traditions with the improvement of local vines, showing how regional values can be brought to the world through wine.

The history of Masciarelli is also a history of winemaking in Italy, the heart of which is located in San Martino sulla Marrucina, in the province of Chieti, where the main wineries are located and can be visited every day by appointment. But to experience the full Chateau Marsch, a visit to Castello di Semivicoli is indispensable: a 17th-century baronial palace purchased by the Marsch family and converted into a wine resort.
